Position Description

The Credit Strategist is part of the Private Wealth Management Credit Solutions team. This role partners directly with Private Wealth Management Advisors on credit solutions, primarily for medical and legal practices, executives in the sports & entertainment industries, professionals, and high net worth individuals. Credit Strategists provide consultative credit solution strategies and act as a liaison between the client relationship team and SunTrust’s consumer and centralized commercial underwriting groups. Credit Strategists are responsible for ensuring the highest level of service is delivered to our clients while ensuring loan transactions maintain solid credit quality and portfolio profitability standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates with Private Wealth Management advisors to understand a client’s credit needs.

  • Partners with advisors to conduct internal client profiling to identify credit opportunities

  • Works directly with clients, as needed, through face-face, phone and email interactions

  • Facilitates the execution for commercial-lending transactions up to $10MM and for complex Consumer transactions

  • Acts as credit market ambassador within assigned geography, actively coaching relationship team on profitability, credit policies and procedures


Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be familiar with complex client entity structures and commercial lending products (liquid secured, yacht, aircraft, and unsecured lending)

  • Fully understands the credit process, financial analysis, credit underwriting and making recommendations

  • Basic knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree with 4 years of commercial or private lending experience

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Possesses strong decision making skills. Ability to determine and focus on top priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Readily adapts to change and new products, systems or methods

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • 5-6 plus years commercial lending or private lending experience

  • Experience with residential and commercial real estate transactions and lending solutions for corporate entities

  • Has market knowledge of loan pricing and structural trends to match client needs

  • Formal credit training
