About this role

The purpose of Service Platform function is to design, operate and deliver market leading Mobile networks. The success of the function is based upon customer centric KPIs and proactive fault resolution, monitoring & resolution processes.

The Mobile Operations teams support and manage system and service performance of services for Mobile Voice and Data services for all mobile brands.

This person will be a recognised expert in Data VPN technologies and the platforms and services used to host them, within the operational and test bed arena.

They must own and drive improvement initiatives to the Mobile Network Enhanced Services Support team and will identify, lead and drive through to completion service improvement initiatives, by influencing both internally and externally.

The role holder will provide technical expertise on behalf of the team, engaging in major projects, supporting delivery of new or changes to all Mobile Network supported technologies.

The Enhanced Services team is accountable for the delivery of complex business products and services into the network and ensuring the best customer experience for all Mobile Enhanced Services specific voice and data services.

This is a specialist technical role focussed on ensuring delivery and in life availability of our Infrastructure & Services.

Team members partake in incident, change & problem management as well as project related work. Members also participate in a 24x7x365 emergency callout rota.

You'll have the following responsibilities

Lead the team in accountability for the technical quality of the end to end Enhanced Services portfolio, ensuring systems deliver to the required level of service, to protect key business revenue streams.

Apply diligence & awareness in relation to potential infrastructure risks and vulnerabilities, paying particular attention to capacity and resilience.

To influence others and ensure the requirements of the team and Service Platforms are fed into discussions with 3rd Parties and internal groups including Design and Service Management. This will involve driving effective collaboration between parties to help deliver better service performance and quality.

Support and implement the strategy in respect of Data VPN, deploying new systems, configuration changes, managing upgrades and maintenance, whilst maintaining a high level of service availability, operational efficiency and quality.

Accountable for defining, producing, maintaining and improving service quality key performance indicators.

To be the recognised technical expert on all Data VPN monitoring tools. Create, influence and implement strategy for monitoring and tools implementation so that we understand our performance and service to our customers.

Influencing others in related Design teams and in technical meetings in order to improve the quality and operability of the service.

Be the technical lead during high impact incident situations.

May be required to take part in departmental shift/on-call rota as operational requirements dictate and in-line with company non-standard hours policy.

Ensure that individual and team skills and behaviours are developed in line with business and operational requirements.

Lead technical aspects of post incident reviews, driving technical improvement opportunities identified in relation to service improvement plans.

Ability to run projects independently & balance multiple work streams.

You'll have the following skills & experience

Recognised as a technical expert within Data VPN, with a detailed understanding of mobile data architecture, protocols, principles and services.

In-depth technical understanding of IP & 3G/4G networks.

Expert knowledge of common protocols e.g. in BGP, OSPF MPLS, VRFs, IPsec IKEv2, NAT, GRE, HSRP.

Experience of dealing with internal and external business customers, third party suppliers, and providing reliable communication between all parties.

The ability to influence and drive technical discussions in the area of mobile voice and data services, in order to drive improvements to the service delivery and performance.

To be able to present information clearly with impact to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Good analytical skills, and able to make judgements based on analysis of factual and qualitative information.

Strong organizational skills to managed, sequence & prioritize multiple workstreams

Experience with (one or many) programming languages Linux, Python, Ansible, Git, Docker & Kubernetes
