Carollo Engineers Electrical System Studies Manager in Dallas, Texas
Overview
Carollo Engineers is a nationally recognized environmental engineering firm that specializes in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater facilities. We are seeking a senior level Electrical System Studies Manager to join our team.
Responsibilities
Expert in short circuit, protective device and coordination, and arc flash studies
Continues to stay up to date on new codes/standards and industry practices for safety in the work place
Lead a team of electrical system study engineers and collaborate with senior management to execute studies and to maintain various company standards including company electrical system study philosophies, training materials, templates, fee estimation tools, standard deliverable, standard scope, etc.
Interfaces and coordinates studies with electrical utilities, project team and client
Mentors and trains staff-level electrical engineers
Prepares technical memorandums and reports
Enforces company and client standards on projects
Conducts quality management reviews of studies
Participates in continuing editing and development of electrical master specification for electrical system studies
Prioritizes and balances competing project demands and conflicting project requirements
Delegates tasks to others and follows up on completion and quality of work
Identifies and consults with others on solutions to unusual, difficult, or complex tasks
Effectively participates and leads in client contacts and business development efforts and preparation of study fee estimates
Identifies alternatives, evaluates each, and determines appropriate actions to move forward
Makes solid and implementable decisions in a timely manner
Reduces complex aspects of electrical engineering to terms understandable to others
Monitors scope, schedule, and budget and controls the work to the project plan
Travel required when requested
Makes site visits to collect data, supervise contractors, mentor staff, and install labelling.
Improving electrical system study practices and efficiency including field data gathering, report production and generation, how we use the software packages, etc.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 9 years of experience with at least 6 years of experience in short circuit, protective device and coordination, and arc flash studies
Registration as a Professional Engineer
Registered with the NCEES
Maintain up to date and comprehensive knowledge of the NFPA 70E and IEEE 1584
Extensive knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code
Extensive knowledge of symmetrical components, fault current calculations, and machine theory
Extensive knowledge of SKM and ETAP. Additional experience with Easypower or ESDA, preferred
Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine or moderately complex tasks
Ability to simultaneously think beyond past approaches and propose practical approaches to management for execution of electrical studies and electrical safety
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in speech, writing, and contract documents
Strong oral and written communications skills
Proficient in public speaking roles
Proficient in MS Word, Access, and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering - Power Specialty
