This Scientist position within the process development scale-up team will work in a pilot-scale manufacturing environment and will collaborate with other scientists to develop robust and scalable downstream processes for both early and late stage biologics in BMS’s robust pipeline. The candidate will work closely with the downstream, upstream and analytical teams in the process development organization, and actively collaborate with the MS&T organization, as well as clinical and commercial manufacturing sites within the BMS network to deliver robust, scalable and economical processes for clinical and commercial supply.

Duties:

  • Perform downstream process scale-up activities in the Devens Scale-Up Lab and support clinical and commercial manufacturing sites.

  • Downstream process development, process scale-up, process characterization, and tech transfer.

  • Prepare/review technical documents including development reports, tech transfer reports, batch records, and SOPs.

  • Participate in cross-functional teams to progress both early and late stage drug candidates.

  • Perform the necessary experiments for evaluation and implementation of innovative new technologies.

  • Lead cross-functional tech transfer teams

  • Mentor junior team members

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical/Biological Engineering, Biochemistry, or equivalent, or M.S. with a minimum of 5+ years of industry experience, or B.S. with a minimum of 7+ years of industry experience .

  • Knowledge and experience with the development and execution of downstream unit operations, including preparative chromatography, ultrafiltration / diafiltration, viral inactivation and viral filtration is required.

  • Prior experience in downstream process scale-up and skid automation control via DeltaV is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge and/or experience with upstream processing is desired.

  • Knowledge and/or experience with analytical protein separation techniques using HPLC / UPLC (such as SEC, IEX, HIC and RP) and/or capillary electrophoresis (such as CE-SDS and ICIEF) is desired.

  • Knowledge of statistical experimental design and data analysis is desired.

  • Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics is desired.

  • Knowledge of cGMPs is desired.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
