A Day in the Life:

The Senior Engineering Manager in our Supply Management group will develop and execute group strategy for the Technical Sourcing function to support Operating Units, Supply Management, New Product Development, and Research Technology organizations; Technical Sourcing is the primary integration point linking Supply Management with Technology and NPD Project Teams aligning Medtronic Product and Supplier Technology Roadmaps.

Vision and Strategy:

Develop and maintain organizational and strategic alignment with Product Development and Technology leaders throughout Operating Units.

Create Technical Sourcing vision and strategies to align Manufacturing Network Supply Management, inclusive of Category Strategies, with the Operating Unit Development Technology portfolios and transition the Technical Sourcing role for earlier and more impactful engagement within Research and Technology.

Product Development and Technology Support:

Drive for Early Supplier Involvement and adoption of DRM methodologies within Development-Supplier interactions.

Through active coaching and deployed Development Team membership, ensure Technical Sourcing addresses Product and Sourcing needs within the Development Phases, (Component Quality, Supply Continuity Risk, Supplier alignment to Manufacturing Strategy, Technology advancement, and Cost targets).

Apply resources to Technology projects to conduct Technology Scouting identifying Supply solutions and commercialization strategies to technical demands.

People and Processes:

Develop personnel to excel in the Technical Sourcing role and grow within the Sourcing and Development organizations.

Establish consistency and sustainability of Project Management processes throughout the Development cycle.

Develop business processes to allow for scaled resource coverage of Development and Technology Projects across all of the Operating Units.

Through proactive alignment with Product Development and Technology leaders, identify all supported Product Development and Research Technology Projects for required Supply Management involvement. Ensure resource assignments balance workload allocation and are appropriately scaled across the Development and Technology Portfolio and driving for a transition to earlier engagement with Research and Technology.

Ensure functional and interactional alignment with other Supply Management Leaders and Development Technology Leaders including AOP resource planning.

Participate, develop, and present recommendations for improved Product Development practices.

Represent Operating Unit to Suppliers for alignment with organizational initiatives utilizing influence from role and established relationships.

Coach and mentor Technical Sourcing staff for individual development and career growth within Medtronic.

Review and approve Product Development Sourcing Strategies. Provide strategic guidance to the Technical Sourcing Specialists and other Sourcing functions through the phases of the Product Development cycle.

Support the development and negotiation of major Technology, Development and/or Service Agreements.

Develop and manage organization structure and budget for the Technical Sourcing function.

Communicate Sourcing resource constraints to Project Managers and Senior Leadership. Develop staffing solutions.

Develop and align Sourcing Protocols with Development Protocols for efficient DHF compilation

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have:

Bachelors degree in a technical discipline.

Working knowledge of Supply Management.

Working knowledge of Product Development cycles and Technology Development phases.

Strategy development for cross functional alignment.

2 5 years Managerial Experience.

10 - 15 years professional experience with a B.S. degree

Work Group Strategy Development.

Proven communication, leadership, and interpersonal and team building skills.

Influence skills to achieve results across a matrixed and virtual organization.

Ability to manage multiple technologies and priority changes while consistently meeting customer needs.

Broad technical knowledge / background.

Project management.

Negotiation.

DRM and Lean Sigma experience.

Experience in medical device industry.

Knowledge of applicable FDA/GMP and International medical device regulations and standards.

Product Development Experience.

Knowledge with specific manufacturing technologies.

Lean Sigma Green Belt Certified.

PMI Certified
