Covenant Transport Services Senior Manager of Driver Training Development in Greeneville, Tennessee

The Senior Manager of Driver Training and Development–Contract Logistics will be responsible for all aspects of the driver training program for contract logistics. The manager will work directly with operations management to ensure all aspects of their training needs are being met. This position will evaluate current training practices utilizing continuous improvement methodologies and statistical analysis to identify best practices. The manager will work closely with safety management of contract logistics to ensure driver development/coaching/mentoring practices are utilized to mitigate driver turnover. This position is responsible for communicating with the recruiting departments for contract logistics to ensure a constant stream of trainees are scheduled for orientation.

  • Manage/mentor all driver trainers to meet operational performance goals

  • Communicate with operations management to ensure clarity of their individual training needs

  • Communicate with recruiting management to ensure constant flow of trainees

  • Communicate with safety management regarding "high risk" drivers to develop individual driver development plan to address the behavior and reduce turnover

  • Utilize multiple continuous improvement methodologies and statistical analysis to identify areas for improvement and best practices

  • Work with training managers to identify and develop trainers across the enterprise

  • Work with outside recruiters to expand the current network of driving schools to increase our trainee pool

  • Modernize the current training documentation process to allow for weekly feedback from the trainer to the training manager

  • Develop and update train the trainer programs that are specific to the various account needs across the enterprise

  • Collaborate with and liaise with operational experts across the enterprise to ensure continuous improvement and growth of the training program

  • Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of Covenant Transport Services.


  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities and competing deadlines

  • Organized and effective under pressure

  • Strong written and verbal communication with the ability to provide valuable and timely customer service to candidates, hiring managers and senior level management

  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Excel

  • Ability and willingness to learn new computer software and systems

  • High School diploma or GED

  • 5+ years transportation experience

  • 3+ years management experience

  • Driving training experience, a plus
