Job Summary

A Mortgage Underwriter at First Entertainment will be responsible for providing underwriting and making initial and final decisions for 1st mortgages and home equity lines/loans that meet secondary market investors' guidelines, in accordance with Credit Union policies, procedures and portfolio guidelines. This position is for an employee with limited-to-moderate knowledge of secondary market investor guidelines for underwriting all conforming loans on single family residential, 2-4 units, condominiums and planned unit developments. This position will be responsible for preliminary and final underwriting of conforming loans, and recommendation for loans outside of conforming guidelines/parameters. This role will be based out of our main office in the Hollywood/Burbank.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with work hours generally between 8:30 AM to 5:15 PM with overtime and flexibility with hours required. May be required to work an occasional Saturday as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite 1st mortgage loans within Credit Union and secondary market investor guidelines, state and federal compliance requirements and Credit Union policy and procedures.

  • Underwrite Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOCs) Home Equity loans in accordance with Credit Union guidelines within established loan authority

  • Perform preapproval of all real estate and home equity loans including review of initial application

  • Review initial disclosures to ensure documentation is in compliance with regulatory guidelines

  • Perform analysis and/or review in-file analysis of complex personal, business, partnership and corporate tax returns.

  • Responsible for making a final underwriting decision based on guidelines set forth by the Credit Union, private investor, FNMA, FHLMC and mortgage insurers

  • Responsible for reviewing all documentation pertaining to purchase transactions including sales contracts, escrow instructions and termite inspection reports

  • Obtain data for pricing analysis on a daily basis. Produce real estate rate sheets that meet secondary market investors' and Credit Union guidelines. Provide rate sheets to required staff and departments on a daily basis

  • Minimum three to five years of experience in the mortgage industry

  • Moderate knowledge of secondary market guidelines

  • Basic understanding of secondary market loan pricing structure.

  • Knowledge of laws and regulations regarding real estate and privacy, including Reg Z, Reg B, RESPA and HMDA.

  • Thorough real estate loan knowledge including loan processing and funding processes

  • Knowledge of mortgage software such as Encompass

  • Knowledge of mortgage documentation including applications, loan documents and disclosures.

  • Ability to read, speak and write clearly to convey information effectively

  • Ability to prioritize according to an order or set of rules

  • Ability to express information and ideas effectively and appropriately so others understand in written and oral formats.

  • Ability to quickly and accurately identify similarities and ideas.
