Univision Communications, Inc Technical Director in Houston, Texas

Position Summary

Univision is seeking a creative and talented Technical Director based in Houston, Texas. The successful candidate will direct live newscasts, news briefs and weather segments. The qualified candidate will work closely with News personnel in creating necessary elements for live or taped programming for linear and non-linear platforms. Operate studio cameras and audio board in the event of emergencies. This individual must be a strategic and creative thinker, a self-starter, and a collaborator willing to learn and share ideas. This individual should also have working knowledge of Ross Overdrive.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct daily newscasts

  • Oversee completion and distribution of news elements

  • Perform quality checks and input of all programming elements

  • Ingest daily news briefs and weekly local shows into on air servers.

  • Work closely with sales/promotions/public affairs on special elements for programs

    Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent of specialized training in the professional field

  • Minimum of 2 years major market or 3 years small market in similar capacity of job responsibilities

  • Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays

  • Familiarity with microwave, satellite, and digital technology

  • Basic graphic design experience, including Photoshop experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, I-News newsroom systems

  • Candidate must have basic editing knowledge in Avid and Adobe Premiere

  • Knowledge of control room operation equipment including teleprompter, studio cameras, audio board, video play out servers

  • Must be able to troubleshoot and coordinate trafficking of commercial dubbing for master control operations

  • Must maintain a good driving record

    Desired Skills & Experience

  • Fluent in English and Spanish (read and write)

  • Knowledge of non-linear systems (Avid and Adobe Premiere)

  • Knowledge of studio cameras, studio lighting and audio board operation

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be willing to work from office in Houston, TX

  • Employment/education will be verified

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

    Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, type, and sit for up to (8) hours

  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment (approximately 25 lbs.)

  • Must be able to climb ladders

  • Must be able to reach above head
