Eaton Corporation Electromechanical Actuation Sr Engineering Specialist in Jackson, Mississippi

Eaton’s Aerospace division is seeking a Electromechanical Actuation Engineering Senior Specialist to join our team. This position can be based at the following Eaton Aerospace locations: Grand Rapids, MI, Irvine, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Fort Worth, TX, Euclid, OH, Jackson, MS, and North Charleston, SC. This role will support the Hydraulic and EMA Strategy. No relocation or sponsorship benefits are available for this position.

Position Overview:

This individual will be the primary focal point for internal and external customers for Engineering development projects for Internal Research and Development, Core Product Development, and customer sponsored Research and Technology or Technology Development projects within the Aerospace EMA LRU product domain.

They possess a broad strategic vision of the division’s future products and services and provide consultation in the chosen area of expertise. They are involved in a wide variety and large number of projects, conduct feasibility studies ensuring that objectives are met and are within budget. They also manage external supplier relationships, and effectively work with all business functions to identify issues, create solutions, and drive those solutions to completion. The Senior Specialist is expected to have a sphere of influence at the Divisional level, and present technical information and project status to the Group CTO or VP/GM level of management. They are recognized and sought out for proficiency in advanced problem solving techniques, driving skill development, and mentoring engineers in technical specialty.

In this function you will:

  • Lead complex technical projects involving cross function technical team members, overseeing conceptual and detailed design, providing direction to other team members, and mentoring less senior engineers

  • Technical lead for an engineering team, responsible for delivering high quality technical output on time.

  • Provide technical advice and guidance; create opportunities for growth and development. Develop culture and grow employee satisfaction, product expertise, etc.

  • Develop resources and capabilities at the Eaton India Engineering Center and Eaton India Innovation Center to support the division strategies and initiatives

  • Drive complete mechanical design to meet customer requirements of performance and cost. Drives entire system tolerance analysis for the product with tolerance stack-ups to ensure functional dimensions are achieved considering effects of temperature, external forces, wear, and other factors, including design and dimensioning for flexible components. Expert on mechanics, tribology, and failure theories applicable to mechanical components.

  • Expertise in design of gear trains, design for manufacturing, design for assembly, design for six sigma, requirement derivation for motors, ball screws, and similar components.

  • Participate in the strategic planning process for the division; create and maintain strategic product and technology roadmaps and lead innovations processes supporting those plans.

  • Assure that product and system designs are competitive on a global basis with respect to cost performance, quality, and reliability. Maintain visibility to and relationships with customers’ technical teams.

  • Prepare Engineering proposals for new or changed scope research and technology projects by compiling, preparing, and providing technical data.

  • Leads internal Gate Reviews for research and technology and Core product development projects. Presents research and technology project status and pivot recommendations as appropriate to Eaton and Customer Senior Leadership.

  • Support the sales and marketing teams as technical expert for customer visits and discussions for early customer engagement and better understanding of the customer wants and needs. Implement voice of the customer and voice of the market into technology roadmaps and product/technology development plans.

  • Apply advanced problem-solving techniques by use of rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions. This is done by probing all fruitful sources for answers, recognizing hidden problems, excelling at honest analysis, and looking beyond the obvious.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other Engineering field.

  • 10 years of experience in Engineering

  • 5 years of experience in modeling and design

  • 5 years of experience in the aerospace industry

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Grand Rapids, MI will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution

  • 15 years of relevant technical experience and 5 years leading people (direct or indirect) including off shore resources (indirect)

  • Demonstrated ability to execute on a plan to develop a technology from concept (TRL2) to demonstration hardware (TRL5/6).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required as interfacing with customers, suppliers, and team members on a regular basis will be required, including interfacing with senior management.
