As a Supplier Quality Engineer at our Marine Engineered Polymer Products division , the ideal candidate will be intimately involved in the development, assessment, evaluation and improvement of our supplier base, to ensure our war fighter with cutting edge technology in the areas of sonar and acoustic applications using advance composite materials. As part of the EPP Team the Supplier Quality Engineering position will play a key role in ensuring all supplied parts, products and services meet and/or exceed our internal and customer expectations regarding quality and performance, to enhance the Navy’s capability to detect underwater threats. Primary Responsibilities:
Conducting supplier audits for High-Risk Suppliers,
Assessing Supplier performance to determine areas of development opportunities,
Supporting Purchasing in assessing and approving suppliers,
Supporting internal customer when supplier issues arise,
Ensuring suppliers meet EPP’s product quality expectations,
Review supplier data for Turnbacks, Escapes, Documentation and Shelf-Life Issues, to generate trends and understand areas of improvement opportunities.
Conduct review of supplier performance data and generate Supplier Scorecards.
Own and manage the Supplier Assessment and Evaluation Quality Procedures.
Be EPP’s POC for all Supplier Quality Issues. Tier Reviews, Gemba Reviews, etc.
Issuance and management of all Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR). Including:
Issuing SCAR Form and logging in in QIM
Track SCAR completion from supplier
Follow-up on late SCAR’s
Verify effectiveness of SCAR’s
Work with purchasing group to manage at risk suppliers effectively
Effectively manage the Quality Approved Supplier List including:
Supplier Surveys and Approvals
Supplier Requests for Information
SAP supplier management tools
Work with QA receiving to address receiving issues from suppliers
Generate supplier monthly performance metrics
Develop a Supplier Development Program for high-risk suppliers and suppliers not meeting EPP’s performance requirements.
Conduct Supplier Source Inspections as required
Be and provide leadership to cross functional teams in the development and execution of strategies and projects to reduce Cost of Poor Quality in areas of responsibility
Actively participate in investigations and failure analysis resulting from production or supplier issues, including the initiation of appropriate procedures to address nonconforming product
Participate in CI activities as member of the Supplier Quality group, and actively seek opportunities for process improvements. (poka-yoke, visual controls, etc.)
Work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams in addressing supplier quality issues using Real Time Problem Resolution techniques
Coordinate all supplier quality requirements and supplier setup in SAP
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience OR
In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
3 years of experience in supplier quality or related quality activities
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
Internal or Supplier Quality Audit experience
Six Sigma/Lean deployment and process improvement techniques
ISO 9001 / AS9100 standards, SPC, structured problem-solving tools (8D, fault tree, etc.)
ERP, SAP preferred
Working knowledge of APQP a PPAP
Experience driving timely resolution of supplier quality concerns, requiring minimal supervision
Experience conveying complex technical information to a wide variety of audiences
Demonstrated analytical skills
Ability to make quality decisions while remaining customer focused
