Job Description:

The Health Care Interpreter (HCI)-Bilingual performs a variety of duties related to the interpretation and coordination of services for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients/patient families in the Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS). This individual facilitates face-to-face, phone or video communications between patients/patient families with limited English proficiency and healthcare providers as well as other specialties involved in patient care guided by the National Code of Ethics for Interpreter in Health Care. The HCI will perform coordinator duties for the scheduling of interpreters and appointments for non-English speaking patients as well as phone assistance to help patients navigate through the MCHS.


Mon - Fri; 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, variable and includes on-call. Position will be located in Marshfield, WI but travel may be required to Colby, Stevens Point, Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids and other locations as needed.



For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Fluent in Spanish in addition to English, with a wide knowledge of colloquial and medical terminology. Completion of 16 hours Community or Medical Interpreter training within one year of hire.

Preferred/Optional: Advance education with a focus in social sciences, communications or a business-related.


Minimum Required: One year experience as an interpreter. Demonstrated knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software programs.

Preferred/Optional: Two years experience in interpretation in the health care setting including but not limited to health care delivery, health insurance, or health care reimbursement.


The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position, which must be maintained in good standing:

Minimum Required: Driver’s license awarded by the State of Wisconsin.

Preferred/Optional: Completion of Bridging the Gap or Equal Footing for Limited English Proficient, CMI or CHI certification, or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
