South Central Public Health District has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Specialist 1. We are recruiting for our Gooding office and Twin Falls office.
The EHS 1 develops knowledge of environmental and public health objectives, policies and rules, and inspects, evaluates and attains compliance with environmental health laws, advises on environmental health concerns and performs related work. The EHS 2 has met the National Environmental Health Association credentialing requirements for the REHS/RS. This classification, Environmental Health Specialist 1, will be used for training purposes for the Environmental Health Specialist 2 position. Through various types of on-the-job training, employees will learn to carry out the duties of the full working level (Environmental Health Specialist 2) and will be reclassified when full level is accomplished.
Example of Duties
Inspect and evaluate environmental health concerns and enforce environmental health laws and advise on environmental concerns.
Evaluate environmental health conditions through inspections, surveys, and investigations of food program establishments, day care facilities, solid waste systems, water supplies, sewage disposal systems, and land development sites for compliance with laws, regulations, and standards.
Conduct tests to determine levels of pollution or contamination; operate and maintain specialized testing equipment and detection devices.
Determine existence and cause of violations and prepare reports of findings or case facts.
Aid in the control and correction of environmental practices.
Promote public awareness of environmental laws, regulations, and standards.
Consult with business proprietors regarding health regulations.
Review plans and specifications for land development, sewage disposal systems, child care facilities and food establishments for compliance with sanitation standards.

Licensure Requirement: Licensed in Idaho as an Environmental Health Specialist or Environmental Health Specialist Trainee or possession of a temporary permit is required prior to appointment (I.C. 54-2408).
The Environmental Health Specialist 1 must obtain licensure within one year of appointment.
Incumbent be willing to meet the National Environmental Health Association registration requirements as an Environmental Health Specialist or Trainee.
Valid driver's license.
Work may involve aggressive or hostile situations and exposure to extreme weather, physical hazards, infectious diseases, toxic substances, and hazardous materials. Positions may involve lifting 50-pound objects to waist height, 24-hour on-call response to environmental problems, and travel within the local service area of a public health district.

Minimum Qualification: Good knowledge of Environmental Health Practices: Do you possess a Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences OR have you successfully completed a college level algebra or higher math course and 30 semester/45 quarter hours in the basic sciences, i.e. biology, chemistry, physics, or other physical sciences as well as sanitary engineering or environmental engineering.
