PURPOSE:

This position serves as a subject matter expert to provide construction site safety guidance and consultation to all regional operations management and employees. Leads the Regional Operation’s ability to manage sound safety, health and compliance program practices that are designed to prevent, reduce and or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths and related losses and financial liabilities that are consistent with Company-wide safety programs and practices. This position provides subject matter expertise and development to support the Senior Vice President and their staff related to compliance efforts with construction safety as well as company safety policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partners with jobsite leaders to ensure implementation of construction safety programs and systems and integrate company safety into daily work procedures.

  • Utilize professional safety principles, concepts and independent judgment to provide solutions to complex HSE problems.

  • Provide Safety leadership and direction to achieve the BFS safety vision through management commitment and employee ownership.

  • Pre Planning by identifying risk and unsafe practices associated with the management of contractors and principal liabilities.

  • Serves as a technical safety advisor and facilitator for HSE in support of the region.

  • Management and support of third parties (i.e. Workers Compensation and Property Insurance Carriers) and develops responses to address identified concerns.

  • Utilize the online Safety Learning Management System to implement HSE related training.

  • Effectively communicate and report all monthly and quarterly safety performance to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises assigned staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor of Science degree is preferred. Specialization in Occupational Safety or Health, Safety Engineering, Safety Science, and Environmental Health is preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience in developing and implementing HSE programs within construction.

  • Ability to apply broad work experience and knowledge when analyzing complex safety problems.

  • Demonstrated leadership, influencing and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to provide safety management influence to multi-state projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to lead and influence teams and individual employees.

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws/environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance and basic understanding of reports.

  • Ability to use standard office systems such as Microsoft Office to support HSE.

  • Ability to travel up to 80% and support multi-state project sites, as needed.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

  • Progressive levels of responsibility and experience managing property and casualty insurance programs

  • Knowledge and understanding of workers’ compensation, automobile liability, general liability and environmental liability insurance, regulations and claim management is required

  • Experience in large multi-facility product distribution business is desirable

  • Duties are performed in both indoor and outdoor work environments in varying weather conditions

  • Work in an office is generally sedentary, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time

  • Frequently work will be performed outdoors, subject to temperature and weather variations.

  • Frequent travel is required, typically 80% overnight (e.g., 4 out of 5 consecutive days)
