Job Title: School Aide/ParaProfessional Location: West Orange, NJ FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Type: Full-time Position Summary: The special education paraeducator assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities helps special needs students, and cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and striving to promote dignity in all relationships. Paraprofessional educators generally assist teachers in the classroom, supervise students outside of the classroom, or provide administrative support for teaching. Essential Job Functions: * Work under the supervision of the classroom teacher. * Assist in caring for the physical needs of children. * Supervise class when a teacher is involved with individual students or in staffing. * Attend staffing and departmental in-service meetings as assigned. * Assist in keeping classroom and program supplies ready and well-maintained. * Maintain professional ethics in the building and out regarding the discussion of pupils and their conditions. * Adhere to the Program and Agency policies. * Provide services, under the supervision of the teacher, to individuals with varied behavior issues which may include physical aggression, verbal assault, inappropriate sexual comments, gestures, and/or acts. * Assist individuals with toileting and personal care needs when necessary. * Assist with behavior management of children as outlined by Program and Agency policies. * Transport students to and from group residences, activities, work, etc. Use of own vehicle is required. * Performs other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: * High School diploma or GED, Bachelor's Degree preferred. * Two (2) years of practical experience working with children is preferred. * Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
