Aerotek Overhead Crane Operator in Petersburg, Virginia
Candidates will start by training for a month doing general clean-up, learning color codes for steel, placement in warehouse and training on the crane. Candidates must come from heavy industrial environments, construction or similar environment as the environment is heavy industrial; hard hat, dirty, and surrounded by steel
As a large distributor for steel beams. it is very unlike a standard warehouse with consumer products; candidates will be required to walk for 8-10 hour shifts; eventually learning to load flat bed trucks but initially receiving inventory, moving materials to the loaders via overhead crane etc.
Candidates will be required to jump off and on trailers for loading, must adhere to all safety rules (not walking in between stacks and always being visible to other associates) It's a very physically demanding position from that standpoint, and must not be afraid of the large product and very physical work. Nothing is lifted by hand as it's all steel beams; however the physical requirements are a full 8 hours of walking at a decent clip to get orders out.
May train to be a saw or brake operator if the skills are there once they are on perm; however most of the job entails loading trailers for delivery. Must be able to learn and retain information based on color coding system therefore they must be able to see color clearly and memorize locations and color system.
Candidates must adhere to all COVID related policies (face mask if within 6 feet however that is rare in the warehouse as they are so spread out) Must practice social distancing.
