JOB DESCRIPTION

Basic Responsibilities

Responsible for independent mechanism application project execution under the guidance of engineering manager or chief engineer. Responsible for the identification and execution of specific engineering tasks to meet project execution deliverables. Resolves product technical issues. Participates in the program SDT by completing engineering deliverables accurately and in a timely manner to allow the team to achieve overall project execution.

Provides technical direction to designers and support personnel with clear written technical information. Provides solutions to resolve technical issues in assigned area of design responsibility, and works with team to ensure time and cost objectives are met. Elevates issues as appropriate. Utilizes best practices in engineering. Capable of communicating effectively with program team, suppliers, and support personnel. Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and follows company procedures.

Specific Functions-Technical Responsibilities

  • Applies best practices in creating layout drawings, detail drawings and assembly drawings. Drawings are complete, specific, and effective at communicating product requirements to all recipients.

  • Applies best practices in product engineering including: understanding of product requirements, application of engineering principles to efficiently meet product requirements, hand calculations and other predictive engineering analysis to demonstrate product adherence to requirements, completion of tolerance stacks, completion of systematic root cause analysis, application of GD&T, DFMEA completion to drive product design, utilization of FEA as design verification tool, DVP planning and documentation of product performance. Has attention to detail and is able to apply engineering principles to real world applications.

  • Executes product design to produce prototype parts to full production intent. Ensures design data is released on-time and with correct maturity for production manufacturing feasibility.

  • Completes and documents accurate root cause analysis in the resolution of product performance issues. Informs lead engineer or engineering manager of any potential safety concern.

  • Provides test specifications and reviews test set up for product testing.

  • Generates product DFMEAs prior to release of prototype tooling.

  • Develops technical solutions that support business objectives (cost, performance, timing, weight, and investment). Is able to show documentation of meeting the key objectives.

  • Effectively communicates with suppliers to ensure drawing requirements are met with intended production processes in a cost effective manner.

  • Performs design studies and tolerance stack-ups to ensure the product works under all conditions.

  • Executes other assignments as directed.

Specific Functions-Administrative Responsibilities

  • Writes engineering change documents.

  • Provides engineering drawings to support personnel.

  • Provides marked up drawings and CAD models.

  • Maintains accurate bill of materials.

  • Timely project execution and resolution of technical issues.

  • Execution of engineering deliverables based on correct engineering analysis.

  • Effective communication of engineering requirements to the program team.

  • Effective balance of conflicting requirements and risks.

  • Accurate and on-time drawings.
