Currently, ManTech is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Preventive Medicine Physician/Public Health Emergency Officer to join our team in Portsmouth, VA.

The Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC) is the Navy and Marine Corps center for public health (PH) services to maximize readiness through force health protection (FHP) strategies and solutions for current and potential PH threats. NMCPHC provides leadership and expertise to ensure mission readiness in support of the National Military Strategy.

Preventive Medicine (PM) and its two departments, Expeditionary Platforms and Program and Policy Support provide FHP through enhancement of organic PM and rapid assessment of health threats including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) in a theater of operations to implement prevention or control. This Directorate also supports Navy medical leaders who establish PM policy and medical personnel who identify, evaluate, monitor, and respond to diseases, injuries, and environmental factors that pose a threat to human health.

Preventive Medicine Physician/Public Health Emergency Officer

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide data analysis and recommendations regarding the development of new technologies to improve warfighter lethality/survivability.

  • Provide assessments that analyze the capability of new and emerging technologies to provide System Information Technology Reports which analyze the ability of information technology and web-based systems, such as the Electronic Epidemiology Network, to accurately detect disease outbreaks in a timely manner.

  • Provide rapid responses to requests for outbreaks and disease and other health and medical information.

  • Provide multidisciplinary consulting for studies, including metric analysis, development, and tracking.

  • Integrate health data with other data types to provide a more robust analysis

  • Investigate and study acute and chronic conditions to identify the health impacts of programs and prepare data in the formats appropriate for assigned inquiries as approved by the Government. This may include direct services to the DoD, DHA, Navy, Navy Medicine, and Navy Medicine Regions including Operational and Readiness Training Commands, NMCPHC and its field activities, and MTFs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • MD with Masters of Public Health Degree or related.

  • Board Certified in any of the relevant areas to this task including Epidemiology, Medical and Disease Surveillance, Preventive Medicine, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

  • Extensive experience in Preventive Medicine.

  • Broad experience in healthcare policy, program design, strategic communication, and comprehensive delivery of population‐based health services for a variety of communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with medical coding, MHS systems: AHLTA, Essentris, CHCS, etc.

  • Current on clinical practice with the ability to provide clarity for any ambiguity around clinical encounters.

  • Significant experience in executive leadership and management of civilian, government, and military health systems in community and academic settings.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance prior to starting. Active secret clearance preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in stationary position for up to 50% of the time.
