Consumer Product Safety Commission VOLUNTARY STANDARDS COORDINATOR in Rockville, Maryland

Summary Join the team! This position is located in the Office of Hazard Identification and Reduction (EXHR). EXHR is responsible for managing the Commission’s Hazard Identification and Analysis Program and its Hazard Assessment and Reduction Program. EXHR develops strategies for and implements the agency’s operating plans for these two hazard programs. Responsibilities The Voluntary Standards Coordinator serves as the CPSC’s senior expert for voluntary standards and voluntary standards development activities. The Voluntary Standards Coordinator is the agency’s conduit and focal point for the full range of voluntary standards activities for all product areas. Major duties include:•Serves as the agency’s focal point regarding voluntary standards organizations, voluntary standards development procedures, practices, requirements, and related matters.•Seeks outreach and education activities to educate and inform internal and external stakeholders about CPSC’s commitment to voluntary standards.•Conceptualizes and manages the interdependencies and complexities of CPSC’s voluntary standards development program across a broad spectrum of scientific/engineering/technical disciplines.•Effectively communicates within and across all levels of the agency and to the broader stakeholder community.•Seeks useful opportunities to engage constructively with non-U.S. based international and foreign product safety standards organizations that have a significant impact on the global manufacturing of consumer products. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship Required. Background Investigation Required. Must be a U.S. Citizen. This is a Public Trust Position. Employment in this position requires a background investigation. Qualifications All applicants musthave 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Expert knowledge of regulations and voluntary standards pertaining to consumer products; 2) demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse individuals and groups; and 3) demonstrated knowledgeof product safety principles sufficient to manage a voluntary standards program. Evidence of the above specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held.
