Under the direction of the Finance/HR manager, the Finance/HR Analyst provides skilled and experienced administrative operations support to manage revenue reporting and reconciliation including data analysis and revenue forecasting for the Birch Aquarium's mixed operating income of $9 million consisting of admission, membership, event, program, contracts and gifts. Responsible for department's procurement processes and is a resource to managers and staff; supports development efforts with gift processing; is an integral member of the sponsored research proposal team, and manages the department's requirements with the university's Campus Asset Management System (CAMS).

Provides Human Resource support by managing the full range of personnel and payroll operation for a variety of positions across 10 different units consisting of approximately 60 career positions, 40 student undergrad, and 5-10 limited positions; supports the Aquarium's robust volunteer program of over 400 participants. Plans and administers a robust student employment program over 7 different unit's; supports job description development and benefit communications.

As a member of the Aquarium's Business Office, represents the department as needed with VC and campus initiatives and committees. May supervise students and demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.


  • Three to five (3 - 5) years experience with a zoo, Aquarium, museum, amusement, or cultural type center or related retail operation.

  • Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.

  • Demonstrated experience performing online payroll/timekeeping functions in a large, complex department.

  • Proven knowledge for Point-of-Sales systems related to attendance forecasting and revenue reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to support grant proposals.

  • Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.

  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

  • Proven experience with personnel onboarding best practices that supports effective and quick engagement with the department and fosters increased retention.

  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and/or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.

  • Proficient knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

  • Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and/or personnel management.
