The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in helping to drive patent prosecution activities forward and support operational initiatives. The position is ideally suited for a detail orientated professional looking to work in a fast-paced collaborative department. This position requires a basic understanding of intellectual property laws and knowledge of patent prosecution lifecycle activities in order to support the business objectives. All Qualcomm employees are expected to actively support diversity on their teams, and in the Company.

In this role, you will be primarily responsible for supporting attorneys on patent prosecution matters.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with the strategic management of intellectual property matters, including monitoring of Qualcomm’s patent portfolio and critical deadlines

  • Manage deadlines and correspondence with the USPTO, Outside Counsel and Foreign Associates and serve as a liaison and the first point of contact for invention disclosures and prosecution

  • Assist in all phases of patent prosecution, including preparing and filing US and PCT applications, amendments, responses and extensive communication with Outside Counsel and Foreign Associates

  • Assist with special projects as needed, with the ability to work in an ever-changing environment

  • Conduct US and foreign prosecution-related legal research

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Paralegal Certificate OR College graduate with 1-3 years of experience in legal field OR 3-4 years legal experience under supervision of attorney (CA bar) AND 1-3 years Patent Prosecution experience at a large law firm or in-house position

  • Knowledge of USPTO patent rules and procedures and strong proficiency and understanding of USPTO EFS-Web and Patent Center filing system and requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and Visio required; PowerPoint a plus)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of PCT procedures a plus

  • Working knowledge of patent prosecution practices in the PCT, EP, and other major jurisdictions worldwide a plus

  • Exceptional communication skills, ability to use logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; strong critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills

  • Ability to build and foster productive relationships with cross functional teams to drive efficiencies

  • Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and superior task management skills

  • 1 year of experience with IP Manager

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, everchanging business environment

  • Be an independent and strategic thinker who is a strong team player and willing to take on additional responsibilities
