Vista Outdoor Product Compliance Engineer in Scotts Valley, California

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Our Legal Department is seeking a Product Compliance Engineer to work with our Bell + Giro Business Unit on all matters related to product regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with cross-functional teams to proactively identify, manage and consult on product compliance matters according to government and customer specific matters.

  • Become the “in-house” expert/consultant on all regulations, requirements and industry standards for the brands.

  • Contribute during product development meetings and sales meetings to advise on compliance requirements.

  • Communicate requirements to product and development teams and manufacturing partners

  • Arrange and document third party testing to ensure product compliance and recertification including mandatory chemical testing of youth products and mechanical testing for safety helmet testing.

  • Review and approve first production samples, labeling, manuals, warnings, claims substantiation and packaging, to ensure compliance to regulations/laws.

  • Manage Action Sports program that is approved by Legal and our 3rd Party Lab to mitigate risk with regards to CA Prop 65 and potential lawsuits.

  • Manage retailer and license products program requirements and apply to vendor operations and products.

  • Plan and administer the brand compliance testing budget.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science

  • 4+ years experience in a consumer products regulatory compliance role

  • Familiarity with the product compliance and safety considerations of protective sports helmets

  • Strong experience with regulatory issues as it applies to manufacturing and consumer products

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong project management and prioritization skills

  • Prior experience with consumer product laboratory testing preferred
