Caterpillar, Inc. Engineer- Design in Brazil
Ideas matter. Bring yours to life here.
Design machines that dig, load and haul autonomously. Run digital simulations predicting how yet-to-be-built components will perform in the field. Use 3D printing to create parts that can be produced more sustainably. In all these ways and many more, Caterpillar engineers conceptualize ideas that become real-world products in our factories—and make progress possible around the globe.
JOB PURPOSE: In charge of predicting machine failures and we use sensor data to do that, so our tasks involve designing the kits, gathering the data, cleaning up the data, and building predictive models.
JOB DUTIES: Conceives and provides practical product design applications using complex technical principles. Emphasis of this position is on creating concepts and directing the design and development of engineering projects.
Prepares concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of engineering projects. Delegates portions of the project to other engineers and leads and coordinates the design, analysis, and computer simulation effort. Prepares development plans and is responsible for meeting scheduled dates. Acts as the development team leader by interacting with Plant locations and various engineering departments. Conducts technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products.
Coordinates product tests with prove design and prototype build up and test areas. Provides guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met.
Evaluates, defines, and resolves design and manufacturing problems. Travels to foreign and domestic plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field test locations to evaluate a product improvement. Uses technical expertise and product knowledge to play the leadership role in the problem resolution process when interfacing with Test and Evaluation, Service, Plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants. Works with manufacturability teams resolving problems with manufacturing and statistical process controls.
Keeps abreast of latest technological advancements and prepares design concepts and develops unique product design features the Company often patents to gain competitive advantage. Travels worldwide to suppliers, production plants, dealerships, customer job sites, and field test locations related to the development of engineering projects and problem resolution.
The Analytics, Virtual Sensors, & Controls Team provides the infrastructure and algorithms to enable proactive maintenance of Caterpillar equipment and to help ensure the success of Customer Value Agreements. The team leverages advanced technology to move Caterpillar customers away from timed component replacement to condition monitoring driven support, prognostics, diagnostics, and service recommendations. To support this the team is developing several aftermarket kits and factory installed devices to monitor machine conditions. There is need for a mechanical engineer that can help design the harnesses, brackets and hose routings required to support this work. Additionally, as the vast majority of the condition monitoring solutions support mechanical systems such as the transmission, undercarriage, and hydraulics there is a need for this person to understand these mechanical systems.
In addition to mechanical design, there may be opportunities for the right candidate to perform data analysis and/or algorithm development.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering mechanical with an interest in data science, or alternatively data science people with some basic-mid level CAD/mechanical design skills
2-5 years experience in design mounting brackets, basic bolted joint design, check for interference.
Must have a good python, analysis or data science skills
Good communications skills.
All qualified individuals - Including minorities, females, and individuals with disabilities - are encouraged to apply.
