The Emergency Service Supervisor position is responsible for accurately classifying vehicles, collecting tolls and providing change to motorists traveling through a toll lane. This position is essentially in an outdoor work environment, subject to weather conditions. Crossing traffic lanes safely requires good mobility, vision and hearing to be alert to traffic conditions. Peak traffic conditions require a high volume of transactions to be processed under demanding conditions. This work impacts the traveling public and as such requires courtesy, efficiency, and professionalism at all times.

The pay rate is $15.00 per hour.

*Candidates must have an availability of either 1st/2nd shifts, 1st/3rd shifts, or 2nd/3rd shifts, across 6 days of the week, including weekends, with 1 day off during the week. Must be able to travel between one of the following areas, you will be paid mileage for traveling:

*This is a Full-Time position. After a 90-day probationary period, employees will be eligible to enroll in Medical/Dental/Vision/401K benefits, and they will begin to accrue sick and vacation time based on hours worked.

Job Responsibilities:

  • The employee must be available for 2 shifts across 6 days per week. Employee availability cannot be altered after hire for any reason. The one day off or not on-call will be scheduled Monday – Thursday and could be adjusted as needed.

  • Must be able to travel between one of the following areas:

    West Palm Beach, Lake Worth, SR 80

  • Employee will be required to accept every shift offered regardless of lead time, provided the ESS has less than 40 hours in that particular week.

  • ESS employees may be required to travel outside of their normal work area and may be compensated for mileage if appropriate.

  • ESS employees will be considered FT with benefits .

  • Employee will be guaranteed 32 hours pay per week regardless of hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours.

  • Employee has the right to decline shifts after 40 hours of work per week without consequence. However, cannot decline more than (3) shifts during a 30-day period.

  • Individuals in this program will be the first choice for overtime if required.

  • Employee must return phone calls for shifts requirements within one hour of the initial call to the employee.

  • ESS are responsible for alerting Faneuil with any change to contact information immediately.

  • ESS must keep an active phone available so they can be contacted at all times.

  • ESS must be willing to take calls 24 hrs per day, 6 days per week.

  • It will be the employee’s responsibility to keep in touch with the service center hourly if the employee is not in possession of a phone.

    Supervisor Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs and monitors toll collector activity to ensure compliance with procedures and policies. Administers disciplinary action as required. Completes performance evaluations and progress reviews for toll collectors.

  • Ensures proper toll lane coverage and adequate number of toll collectors. Issues change funds, supplies and equipment to collectors for work shift assignments. Ensures collectors receive proper rest and meal breaks.

  • Relieves collectors as required.

  • Prepares operational reports as required by procedures. Handles coin vault(s) operations as specified by procedures.

  • Maintains traffic flow through toll facility. Monitors operation of toll collection equipment to ensure proper revenue collection.

  • Performs security and safety related duties as required by procedures, including proper transfer of money.

  • Speak and understand English proficiently to effectively communicate with motorists and respond to inquiries in a courteous, professional and helpful manner.

  • Ensures toll collectors are properly trained in current operational procedures and policies.

  • Ability to perform duties to include preparation of daily and monthly reports, reviewing and analyzing collector variances, assist in preparation of supervisors’ schedules, communicate with regional office staff and other Department personnel regarding operational and staffing issues as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Required to possess and maintain a current/valid Florida Driver’s License.

  • Successfully pass English, Math, and Cash Calculations tests.

  • Availability to work weekend hours based on business needs.

  • Ability to handle high traffic volume quickly and efficiently.

  • Ability to safely walk across toll lanes and climb/descend stairs while carrying up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to walk long distances.

  • Ability to determine vehicle classification by visual inspection.

  • Proficiently operate the Department’s toll collection equipment according to procedure.

  • Accurately classify vehicles and collect proper toll amounts from motorists traveling through a toll lane.

  • Accurately make change for various U.S. bill denominations in a timely manner, issue receipts to motorist and write insufficient fund slips.

  • Accurately complete operational reports reflecting toll lane activity. At end of the shift, balance cash and prepare accurate cash deposits on monies collected and tickets received.

  • Ability to determine correct tolls based on a numerical table provided.

  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to express ideas and concepts clearly.

  • Interpersonal communication skills.

  • Cash handling experience on a computerized system.

    *Final candidates for this position will need to successfully complete drug screening and a background investigation, which may include a criminal and credit check along with DMV.
