UPMC Williamsport, located in Williamsport, is hiring multiple Casual Safety Sitter positions to help support our Resource Unit during this unprecedented time. Schedule flexibility is needed. These positions will work a variety of rotating, 4-hour shifts (as many as up to 12 hours per day, if you like and are able!
As a Safety Sitter, you’ll provide observation to our patients to ensure their well-being. You’ll serve as a watchful set of eyes for the care team, as well as a companion for the patient. Whether the patient is a fall risk, a flight risk, or simply in need of some extra attention, you’ll provide a steadfast presence in the room that communicates to the patient that they are safe and in good hands. Additionally, you may assist on patient transfers, hygiene and personal care, and other comfort measures as needed. Paid training will be provided as needed.
All positions will require successful completion of a criminal background check, any required clearances, and a pre-employment physical and drug screen as part of UPMC’s standard hiring process. If your academic institution has these documents on record, your onboarding may be expedited.

Assures equipmentmalfunctions are reported to the appropriate department. Establishesappropriate and effective communication strategies. Establishesprofessional and respectful interpersonal relationships. Contributes touniversal patient activities including, but not limited to, responding totelephones, assisting with meal trays, and accompanying patients duringtransport.
Constructively receivesfeedback and direction. Identifies and communicates learning needs to thedirect supervisor. Takes action to improve knowledge, skills, andperformance. Requests assistance in planning and prioritizing activities,as needed. Participates in self-review as requested by the directsupervisor.
Suggests and supportschanges within the department. Assumes responsibility for assignment andviews problems as challenges. Demonstrates awareness of behavior on theefficient functioning of the department.
Provides observation anddirect patient care as directed by the RN including, but not limited toactivities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting,and ambulating, as well as turning and repositioning patients. Maintainsan environment conducive to patient safety and recovery including, but notlimited to completing safety checks, keeping the patient room clean andorganized, cleaning patient-specific equipment, changing bed linens, andemptying linen hampers. Acquires and distributes supplies and equipment tofacilitate patient care delivery including, but not limited to, performingmessenger functions, ordering, charging/crediting supplies, setting uppatient care equipment within the scope of the Care Attendant position,and stocking patient rooms and unit supply areas. Delivers patientnourishments, fills water pitchers, and distributes patient mail asapplicable if not directly with patient.
Demonstrates the ability tocommunicate clearly and effectively with all members of the health careteam. Demonstrates understanding of cultural diversity, horizontalviolence, and impairment in the workplace. Cares for patients and self bysupporting safety in the workplace. Develops and maintains productiveworking relationships internally and externally by demonstratingaccountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment topatients and colleagues.
Provides feedback to the RNregarding patient care and reports changes in patient status. Completesclerical functions as needed by department. Complies with safety policiesand procedures including standard precautions and understands policies andprocedures for blood borne pathogen exposure. Strictly adheres to allpolicies and practices relative to patient care and hospital-relatedinformation. Responds within the scope of the Care Attendant role toemergent situations. Provide one-on-one companionship/supervision withpatients.
High school diploma orequivalent.
Nursing student currentlyenrolled in nursing school
Nursing students who havecompleted clinical orientation to UPMC Williamsport strongly preferred
Knowledge of bodymechanics and transfer techniques.
Ability toeffectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both adidactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR)
Act 33 Child Clearance with Renewal
Act 34 Criminal Clearance with Renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance
