Laboratory Technician, Analytical Research & Development

Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician, Analytical Research & Development reports to the Associate Director, Analytical Research & Development

The Analytical Research and Development (AR&D) laboratory supports evaluation and testing of raw materials, excipients, APIs, in-process and finished product samples. AR&D also performs development and validation of methods used to support release and stability testing of non-commercial products and materials. The department provides analytical services to manufacturing, process development, validation and new material qualifications. AR&D interacts with clients to provide not only research and testing of products, but also support CMC development activities in support of client regulatory filings. Activities are performed in accordance with specifications, standard operating procedures, approved test methods and/or protocols, regulatory requirements, and St. Petersburg’s Quality departmental policies.

Catalent's Winchester location is the flagship US manufacturing location for large scale complex controlled release (CR) oral dose forms, with integrated analytical and development services. With 20 years of expertise in product development, technology transfers and commercial manufacturing, and roots in industry leading Glatt technology. This site offers newly installed Fluid Beds, expanded analytical labs, and an advanced open facility design that provides flexibility in supporting the requirements of any new customer program.

The Role

  • Under direction of supervisor, responsible for daily equipment equilibration. Ensures general use equipment areas are neat, clean and clear. Communicates with metrology when service is needed.

  • Supports AR&D in lab operation tasks such as chemical inventory management, qualitative standards inventory, consumable supplies area, waste disposal, safety initiatives and other services as necessary

  • Collaborates with Quality Control for shared laboratory operation services

  • Under the direction of supervisor, prepares lab reagents, test solutions, buffers, mobile phase and other solutions necessary for evaluation and testing of samples.

  • Under direction of supervisor, after completing training on lab equipment and instruments and demonstrating proficiency in various test procedures, perform testing of samples and products, complete documentation as time of experiment and report results in a timely fashion.

  • Embraces the continuous improvement attitude and contributes to laboratory operational excellence. Maintains a safe work environment.

The Candidate

  • Requires a minimum of a high school diploma. Prefer an Associates College Degree in science or technology which relates to pharmaceutical industry.

  • Must have minimum of two (2) years’ experience in chemical, medical or pharmaceutical setting

  • Must have previous exposure to cGMPs or cGLPs.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral

  • Should possess computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and other applicable software
